Inside, Out & About Podcast
Take a virtual journey along the Chicago River system
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Friends of the Chicago River created Inside, Out & About, a podcast that takes audiences on a virtual journey along the Chicago River system with the aim to inspire the use, protection, and improvement of the natural places and resources that can be found in communities along the Chicago river.
Topics in the podcast range from the history of the Chicago Portage National Historic Site, where Native Americans lived for centuries, to the various animal species found almost nowhere else in Chicago inhabiting LaBagh Woods.
An online program accompanies each podcast episode, providing an in-depth look at each site, the history, health, and wildlife, as well as information regarding family activities, community connections, and wellness. To ensure that the programming reaches a broad audience, all online programs are available in Spanish and English.
“One of our goals for Inside, Out & About is to deepen our relationship with nature,” said Margaret Frisbie, executive director of Friends of the Chicago River and host of the podcast. ”By promoting the use of natural areas, Inside, Out & About encourages stewardship, and helps people understand that being outside in nature is good for physical and emotional health.”
To date, Inside, Out & About has been downloaded more than 500 times.
